Quick post on something I’ve been meaning to post for a while now, but kept forgetting. So, I figured I may as well do it now before I forget again!
One of the biggest (and most complained about) challenges with Membergate is that whenever a user uploads a file, Membergate gives it it’s own “special” name.
Sure, we can change the prefix portion of the filename, but the rest (a bunch of numbers) is the naming convention that Membergate uses to name the file (presumably for ease of retrieval).
It does not matter what the uploaded filename has on your computer, it will be changed. It won’t upload the file with the name you have given it.
Are zipped files the answer?
In light of this, I think the only way to work around this is to use zip files for all your downloads.
It sounds strange because we can upload word documents, PDFs, … but then your members will have to manually change the names on the files they have downloaded (and give it a name that makes sense).
If we upload zipped files, when they are unzipped, the file or files inside keep the original filename.
