Consistent sizing for graphic images is one of the least expensive ways site owners can improve the appearance of their membership sites. The easiest way to achieve consistent sizing is to use Adobe Photoshop’s “Actions” feature. Actions are similar to macros in that you can create, and name, a sequence of commands that you can apply over and over again to graphic images, saving time and benefiting from consistent results.

One of my professional photographer friends created several actions for me, so I can quickly resize graphics to a variety of different sizes. One Action resizes graphics for placement at the upper right of Published & Profitable content pages. Another Action creates tthumbnails to appear with the teaser copy appears next to page descriptions in different departments.

But, there’s more to Photoshop Actions than simply saving time. This afternoon, while creating thumbnails for my new Interviews page, I inadvertently used some graphics that were “about” the right size, but were not scaled by my Create Thumbnails Photoshop Action.

The difference was amazing!
When 1 or 2 of the images were even slightly larger or slightly smaller than those created by my .75-inch Create Thumbnails Action, the slight variation greatly undermined the look of the page.

You, too, might consider using Photoshop Actions to consistently resize graphics for your content pages as well as the thumbnails appearing on department pages.
