Certainly, the Public Page is one of the most popular, as both members and non-members view it. To non-members, it is their introduction to your site, one that–hopefully–provides compelling reasons for them to stick around and learn more.
To members, the public page is a stop on their way to the member log-in page, followed by the hember page–where members begin their journey through your site.
What other pages are as important?
I suggest the log-out confirmation page deserves careful attention. It’s a page that every member encounters, immediately after they log-out of your site, ending their session on your site.
Because it’s the last stop when members leave your site, you should make the most of it by doing something that will make members feel both appreciated and appreciative. Your efforts can pave the way for member referrals to coworkers and friends, as well as continued membership for years to come.
Ways to show appreciation include:
- Thanking members for visiting
- Reminding them of upcoming events
- Highlighting newly-posted content
- Describing content you’re currently working on
- Offer an unexpected bonus or feature
- Asking members to comment on the contents they had just visited, as well as ask questions and make suggest topics for future content.
Update your log-out confirmation page on a monthly basis. This will reinforce the idea that you are keeping the site fresh. Keeping your log-out page updated and relevant will pay dividends in terms of member loyalty and reduced attrition.
